Do y’all have any idea the pollination group and ploidism of the apples? Specifically; Rays, Gragg, and Golden Sweet. I’ve got some healthy trees from scionwood at this orchard and I’m trying to give away to folks with as much information as I can!

We’ve recieved your message and can help you with information. Have you seen all the detail information on the website about these 3 apples? I will look into the details on pollination and ployidism for you.
Details on these heirloom varieties are difficult to come by. Fortunately, I work with Jason Bowen at the Southern Heritage Orchard at the Horne Creek Living Historical Farm near Pinnacle NC.
Jason has been sturdying these apple for years and has put together good pollination information based on multiple years observation.He lists the following for “time of full bloom” :
“middle / Late” for Ray (also known as Munson Sweet)
“middle” for Golden Sweet
“Late” for Gragg
This is based on a simple “early, middle, and late graph.For Ploydism I look to Pomiferous.com You can see for yourself how these are listed (or not listed)

Thank you for all those links, that was very helpful information! I live off Little Creek Rd in Yancey, and I’ve got many grafted apple trees finally planted out with scion wood from the Crossnore orchard and some other trees around Yancey county!

Thank you for the question! We have recently learned our own address!! 114 Maple Street, Crossnore, NC is the 911 address which you can put in your GPS. My husband says he answered your question. Did you, in fact, get that answer. We are new at this and appreciate any feedback you can offer.

The Crossnore Heritage Orchard is an educational Community Orchard, much like some in England. We welcome visitors, whether in person or online at our website: crossnoreheritageorchard.com
We welcome visitors to learn in-depth information about any of our 28 different historic, heirloom apple varieties. If visiting in person, visitors can pick ripe apples for tasting and taking home for cooking. On our website we have a page titled “Apple Ripening Calendar” to help you locate the ripe varieties at the time of your visit. We do not charge anything for this service.
However we do accept tax deductible donations with our Paypal system onsite or from your home computer. If you have any further questions, we welcome your reply or call us at 828-387-0174.
